From cloud computing to autonomous vehicles, the demand for faster memory interfaces is accelerating. A disruptive technology feature of fast interfaces such as DDR5, LPDDR5 and GDDR6 is equalization on the memory chip's receivers, which recovers signals degraded by their path through the printed circuit board (PCB). Hardware engineers need to minimize the risk of signal integrity issues in memory bus designs, which requires the ability to predict the signal quality after equalization, prototype the design and test for performance.
Keysight's PathWave ADS 2022, a design and test workflow for next-generation memory, enables hardware engineers to meet time-to-market requirements and deliver a high-performance, reliable end-product. The Memory Designer in PathWave ADS 2022, addresses the following design challenges:
- Model the transmitter and receiver behavior accuratelyby generating advanced simulation models of both DDR transmitters and receivers, with flexible equalization and external clock inputs.
- Optimize equalization settings to predict design marginswith an advanced simulator that uses adaptive equalization to find the optimal settings for the best signal integrity of the data link.
- Quantify margin to the eye-maskby predicting eye closure down to standard-specific Bit-Error-Rates, and report remaining margin to the eye-mask.
- Find failing conditions with design explorationby generating a batch simulation list to sweep through all possible design parameters and report passing/failing configurations as spreadsheet data.
- Confidence in design sign-off, from design through to testby performing an automated compliance report on simulated signal waveforms and utilizing consistent measurement science to identify issues early and trial potential fixes efficiently.
ADS 2022 Update 0.1 Release Notes - Release: August 31, 2021
ADS 2022 Update 0.1 (minor update release) is a cumulative minor update release installed on ADS 2022 (base release). You can upgrade your existing ADS installation (ADS 2022) to ADS 2022 Update 0.1 without uninstalling any previous minor updates (if available any).

- ADS 2022 Update 0.1 includes enhancements in Circuit Simulation and HSD
Circuit Simulation
Added support for doublequotes nested into singlequotes in hspice.
HSD
- Allow users to change the Description title in s-parameters window.
- Higher default value, 40GHz, for the phase interpolator's parasitic cutoff frequency with single ended PAM4.
- When you double-click the Description title in the S-Parameter toolkit, it allows you to edit the title. Also, you can reset to the default name using the "Set to Default" button.
ADS 2022 Update 0.1 addresses issues related to Circuit Simulation, HSD, Design Kits, EM Simulation, and SIPro/PIPro.
HSD
- Added translation of AMI parameter values True/False for the In and InOut AMI parameters of Redrivers.
- When risetime or falltime measurement calculation fails because of too small amplitude resolution, the simulator will error out faster.
- Support frequency units for Memory Interface AMI Model Builder custom CTLE options.
- Fixed the pass/fail result issue for COM 2.6 calculation in Windows.
- Fixed the reference impedance scaling when the S-Parameter matrix is specified by its upper or lower half.
- Improved single-ended PAM4 timing behavior.
Design Kits
- Updated the FET and FET_2 component help.
- DemoKit_mmWave: Fixed a Pcell bug in the "demo_mmWave_Cross" and "demo_mmWave_Tee" components, appearing when parameters W1 or W3 < 6um.
EM Simulation
RFPro
- Fixed an issue where RFPro refused to reopen a design that contained natively placed 3D components and bondwires.
- Fixed an issue in RFPro-FEM Generation 2 causing the simulation to fail with the 'There is no mesh around line' error.
SIPro/PIPro
SIPro
- Issue addressed with failing SIPro simulations on clusters when number of parallel jobs is > 1.
- SIPro log reporting showing 0 unknowns for sub domain simulations fixed. Original issue did not affect the simulation results.
- Issue blocking tuning of surface roughness in MLSUBSTRATE addressed.
- Issue with simulations of setups using of Reference Pin on layers addressed.
- Improved LF behavior for SIPro simulation for setups with address lines.
PIPro
- SIPro log reporting showing 0 unknowns for sub domain simulations fixed. Original issue did not affect the simulation results.
